At the beginning of last week, we had the pleasure of hosting our international partners from the Recharge project consortium in Warsaw. The initiative aims to reinvigorate the cultural heritage sector and support it in diversifying their sources of funding. Through collaborative work, the so-called Living Labs are developing new, sustainable and participatory business model designed to support both the cultural sector as well as surrounding communities of these institutions.

The recent meeting in Warsaw was special – it was the first time the representatives from six institutions involved in the new Recharge Next program were able to come together in person! They are Pinacoteca e Museo Civico di Palazzo Minucci Solaini (Italy), KÖME – Association of Cultural Heritage Managers (Hungary), MAO – Architectural Museum Ljubljana (Slovenia), Hilversum Public Library and Heritage House (Netherlands), MART – Museum of Modern and Contemporary Art of Trento and Rovereto (Italy) and Serfenta Association (Poland).

One of the main highlights of the meeting was the presentations from each of the new Living Labs – we got to learn about the innovative projects they will be working on. An overview of each proposal is available here:

Another key element of the meeting was a workshop focused on business models that are not only based on participatory strategies, but also take into account the realities and potential of cultural institutions. The session drew on our experiences from completed and ongoing Recharge Living Lab projects, enabling participants to identify business model patterns that can help heritage institutions align key processes with innovations.

During these two intense days, we also had the opportunity to take our partners to the heart of Warsaw’s community and participatory movements – the day ended in the Finnish houses neighborhood of Jazdów, where we were able to enjoy the pleasant space of Państwomiasto and final days of late summer.

It was a very inspiring workshop  – we can’t wait to work on all the Recharge Next projects!
