Time to build a dynamic, resilient and sovereign technology ecosystem in Europe. Read our Statement
European civil society organisations have issued a joint statement to the Danish Presidency of the Council of Europe.
The Digital Summit 2025 in Gdańsk gathered not only politicians, business representatives, and academia, but also organizations fighting for the protection of democracy and human rights in the context of technological and geopolitical threats.
Digital technologies are now the backbone of our economies and democracies – shaping public discourse, enable civic participation, and driving innovation. But the infrastructure underpinning Europe’s digital sphere is still dominated by a handful of providers. We need alternative scenarios, rooted in European values and consistent with Europe’s economic interests.
Therefore, we joined civil society organizations that signed a statement calling on EU leaders to take action to secure our digital future. It outlines four specific priorities:
- Investing in open, interoperable ecosystems,
- Leveraging the Digital Markets Act for better interoperability,
- Developing competitive European cloud infrastructure,
- Supporting an independent European social web based on open protocols.Signatories
