Be Prompt! Tools and strategies for an ethical use of GenAl in the creative and cultural sector

The development of generative artificial intelligence tools presents an opportunity to streamline daily work – including that in the creative sector and cultural heritage institutions. However, for many smaller museums, libraries, or local cultural centres, implementing new technologies involves technical challenges, legal uncertainties, and concerns regarding the quality and authenticity of cultural content – especially since large language models often perpetuate errors, biases, and social stereotypes.

The goal of the ”Be Prompt!” project is to ensure that the use of new technologies does not contribute to eroding cultural diversity, but rather supports equal, inclusive access to the wealth of culture. We want specialists working in the creative sector and heritage institutions to be able to draw on the benefits of AI tools consciously, ethically, and in way suited to the unique nature of their field.

The 14-month project combines a theoretical foundation with a strong practical focus, which involves:

• Research into the needs and competencies of staff at small museums, libraries, and organizations devoted to local heritage, as well as professionals working in communication, content creation, and digital education. We will examine how organizations in Poland and Italy use AI in their daily workflows.
• Workshops on the risks, benefits, and practical aspects of working with generative artificial intelligence, alongside training on inclusive language that reflects and invites social diversity. Insights from these workshops will inform a set of practical guides created as part of this project.
• An international exchange of experience among practitioners from Poland and Italy, specifically focused on developing recommendations and best practices for ethical, responsible AI integration.
